Thursday – April 17 – DAY ONE
The District Conference begins tonight at 6:00 pm at the Rotary’s year round gathering place, the Home of PDG Jerry and Carleen Burger. In what seems rapidly becoming a Conference Tradition, Jerry is hosting a DAY ONE Barbeque. Wade Stewart of Bricktown Rotary has volunteered his Bank’s mobile cooker and PDG David Reid will again be at the cooking controls for what promises to be a really fun evening of Fellowship.
Attendance at the Barbeque is FREE with registration and attendance at one of the other food events of the Conference: All-Club-Luncheon, Friday Casino Night, Saturday Charter Members Breakfast, Saturday Programs Lunch, or Saturday Awards Banquet. Friday – April 18 – DAY TWO
Registration and the Hall of Friendship will open up at 9:00 am.
SESSION ONE – 10:30 a.m.
The first Session will be a Presentation and Question and Answer program aimed at Club Foundation Chairs and interested Rotarians. Zone 26 Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator (RRFC) Noel Bajat will provide us with highlights of the just completed International RRFC Training at Evanston. He will talk about the New Foundation Strategic Vision Plan and will answer questions on subjects like the District Simplified Grants, Matching Grants and the other Programs of the Rotary Foundation.
LUNCHEON Seating begins at 11:30. Many Clubs will have dedicated check-in complete with Badges. Check with your Club President. REMEMBER, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY THE REGISTRATION FEE TO ATTEND ONLY THIS LUNCHEON,.you can pay only for lunch. If your club does not attend en-mass, get your lunch ticket at Registration. Everyone needs a ticket to get into the lunch. The meeting will be called to order at 12:15.
There will be a mass ringing of the Club Bells to kick the Conference off.
The Luncheon will feature an address by President’s Representative PDG Linda Coble, from Hawaii. Linda is an on-air Broadcast Journalist, with an Emmy to show for it. She has previously been a President’s Representative to Conferences in England, New Zealand, and Yosemite, California. So, she should have things really down pat. Click Here for Linda’s Bio. The lunch will adjourn NLT 1:15 - PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND.
Following lunch we will move to the Plenary Session Rooms just across the hall and the sessions of the day will begin.
SESSION ONE - 1:30 p.m.
The first session will be a feature the Rotary SHELTER BOX, a fantastic Rotary Program that provides emergency shelters to victims of disasters worldwide. A Shelter Box contains what are often lifesaving materials to assist 10 people. Each Box includes Tents, Blankets, Cook Pots and Pans, and other supplies that help insure survival. There will be a complete open Shelter Box display at the House of Friendship. The program will be presented by PDG David Shirley of Norman, who is a regional Shelter Box representative.
SESSION TWO – 2:15
The second Session will feature Group Study Exchange. GSE Chairman Randy Goodman will he hosting a fascinating program that will feature video reminisces by our Outbound Team to Rio and a full presentation by our Inbound Team from Poland - Belarus - Ukraine. Randy will also be talking about our upcoming exchange with Bolivia in 2009.

SESSION THREE – 3:15
Session Three Features Club Community Service and Grants Projects on Display. Come and learn about the numerous Community Service Projects, District Simplified Grants and Matching Grant Projects that clubs have done this year. Also, sign up to attend Bricktown’s Tecate Clinic or go on one of North West’s New Medical Missions. And, learn from West OKC Rotary how your club can apply for one of their scholarships
SESSION FOUR – 4:15
Memorial Service. Following a short break we will begin our Memorial Service to honor and remember District 5750 Rotarians who passed away during this Rotary year. South Oklahoma City Rotary Club has prepared a dignified and informative Memorial Service. If a member of your club has passed this year, please contact Chuck Musgrave at Chuck@sunbeltokc.com so that proper recognitions may be given. If pictures are available of the member, please also send them so that they can be included in a remembrance video. All are encouraged to attend.
SESSION FIVE – THE EVENING CASINO NIGHT – 5:30
The evening fellowship event begins at 5:30 pm with a cash bar reception. The carving station buffet will open at 6:00. There will be a short program at Dinner which will feature informal remarks by DGN William Bowden.
At 7:00 we will adjourn to the Casino. There will be Blackjack, Craps, and Roulette and the Bars will stay open. Every player will be given 1,000 chips to play with. At the end of the evening, everyone will cash in their chips and receive drawing tickets. Everyone gets at least one ticket, but, the more you win, the more tickets you get. Clubs, Sponsors and Marty will be donating prizes. If you have a great gift to donate, call Chuck Musgrave, 405-843-1275.
At about 9:00 we will close the Casino, cash in, and begin the drawing. Good luck to all. See you in the morning.
Saturday - April 19 – DAY THREE
8:00 AM - Saturday kicks off with two breakfasts, The Annual PDGs’ Breakfast and the First Annual Breakfast Honoring Charter Members. PDGs know about their breakfast.
The Charter Members’ Breakfast is new. It is open to all Rotarians who have registered to attend at least one evening meal event. Any Rotarian who was a Charter Member of Any Rotary Club will be a featured guest. As you can see, there is really special meal price for attendees of this Breakfast. At the breakfast, individual Charter Members will recall for us all what it was like when they were in the chartering process.
SESSION SIX – 9:00
Session Six begins with a welcome from DG Marty Postic. DGN William Bowden will introduce the main members of his team to 2008 –2009. Other remarks and introductions.
Rotary Youth Exchange – 9:30
Myra Reid, Youth Exchange Chairman has put together a pleasant surprise for us with a great guest speaker and the opportunity to hear from our inbound Rotary Youth Exchange students. This should be really fun.
Four Way Test Speech Contest – 10:30
This is another first for the District Conference. We will have the finalists from several Club Four Way Test Speech Contests. There will be a total of 7 contestants and we will hear each of their speeches. The Winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize plus a $5,000 Scholarship to OCU. The scholarship is being provided courtesy of the Capitol Rotary Club. Second place will receive $300 cash and Third place will be awarded $200 cash.
The committee will then select the winner who will be announced at Lunch today.
Lunch – 12:00
Lunch will feature additional remarks by Linda Coble, the President’s Representative and the presentation of the Winners of the Four Way Speech Contest.
SESSION SEVEN – 1:15
Session Seven features the Wings of Rotary. We will be hearing from Wings participants and leaders of Past, Present and Future Wings Adventures. Wings Chairman Walt Corbett will be on hand to introduce. 2006 leader, Ed Miller will also be on hand. Evan and Heather will talk about their trip and introduce some of the 2007 student participants who will talk about their time in Japan. 2008 Team Leader Mason Sommer will be on hand to promote this year’s event and to answer any questions about the coming trip. Please feel free to invite anyone, student or parent who might be interested in learning more about the Wings of Rotary.
SESSION EIGHT– 2:00
Session Eight is Finishing Up With Polio. RRFC Noel Bajat will be presenting the latest word on how Rotary is planning to approach its response to the Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation’s challenge gift to $100 Million. This will be something everyone will want to hear about. Noel will also bring us up to date with the latest advances being made in the field and how progress is continuing to evolve. Rotary is not going to be asking individual Rotarians who have already participated in the fight against Polio to contribute individually once again. Come learn and discuss how your Club and District can participate in Rotary’s and the World’s Triumph over Polio.
SESSION NINE– 3:05
Session Nine is the Annual Business Meeting for District 5750. Among other items to be discussed and decided is the election of a Member and Alternate of the 2008-2009 Nominating Committee for the RI Director from Zone 26. This election will be held at Boise, ID during the International Institute. Too, we must select a Representative and Alternate to the Council on Legislation to be held in Evanston, IL in 2010. Other District Business.
GOVERNOR’S RECEPTION – 6:00
GOVERNOR’S AWARDS BANQUET – 6:30
The Governor’s Awards Banquet promises to be a highlight of the District Conference. In addition to the pomp and circumstance, there will be G.E.A.R. awards drawings. Remember, a club must be present to win 23 clubs are still in the running for this award. There will also be the awarding of the Presidential Citation to the Club which completed that award requirements and there will be several Club and Individual awards. A really good time will be had by all.
Hotel Information:
The host hotel is the Renaissance Hotel in Downtown Oklahoma City. We have a number of rooms guaranteed for both Friday and Saturday evening. The Rotary Rate is $132.00 per night. You must make reservations independently of conference registration. For reservations please call the hotel at 405-228-8000.The rooms are on hold at this rate only until April 4, 2008, so please make your reservations early.
Parking Information: There is parking under the Cox Center and in the Santa Fe Parking Garage. Cox parking garage entrances are located on the ease side of the convention center on EK Gaylord and on the west side of the convention center on Robinson. Santa Fe Parking Garage entrances are located on the east side of EK Gaylord between Robert S Kerr and Main. There is a covered walkway connecting the Garage and the Cox Center.
Lunch and Meal Locations: The All-Club Luncheon will be served in Great Hall “C”, located on the second floor of the Cox Center. This is also the venue of the House of Friendship.
All other meals will be served in Great Halls “D and E” of the Cox Center.
Activity Tickets: Every meal event requires a ticket to attend. Club 29 members will be given tickets when they check in at the Club 29 lunch registration table at the All-Club Luncheon. All others will be provided tickets either in their registration packets, which they will receive when they check in for the Conference, or from their club when they check in at their dedicated club registration table. All other event tickets will be in the individual registration packets. It is permissible for a Rotarian to attend any or all Plenary sessions by paying only the $25 conference registration fee.
