GOVERNOR MARTY POSTIC’S MESSAGE:

My Fellow Rotarians and Friends:

I am truly honored and humbled to be your District Governor this year. I am also excited about what we can do together to show our District and the world that Rotary Shares. This theme chosen by our International President Wilfrid J. (Wilf) Wilkinson is really an affirmation of what we as Rotarians already know: Rotary DOES share! We share Rotary in our local communities by helping children read, by giving students dictionaries, by building orimproving parks,by providing landscaping, and by conducting immunization days. We share Rotary internationally by hosting and sending Youth Exchange students, Ambassadorial Scholars, Group Study Exchange

participants and by sharing our wealth in the form of matching grants and other humanitarian aid in times of disaster and need. I dare say that Rotary has touched every aspect of life somewhere in the world.

Although all of those achievements are wonderful things that we should be very proud of, I ask you to try and look at Rotary from a different side. I ask you to consider what brought you into Rotary. Was it the service to our communities? Was it the international service? Was it the club fellowship? Was it simply a chance to belong? Whatever it was, I ask that you take that reason and share it with someone else. I am asking that you do this in the hope you can encourage them to join Rotary. I quote often from the classic movie, Field of Dreams, in which a voice tells the main character, Ray Kinsella, played by actor Kevin Costner, “If you build it, they will come.” It took Ray a while to figure out what he needed to build and to see who would come. Well, I can assure you that if you build a Rotary Club in your community of service and fellowship, new members will come!

Rotary Shares. We who are already Rotarians know that! It is your job – and I challenge you to actively do it – to find those new members with whom you can share Rotary and with whom Rotary can continue to share service, fellowship, and opportunity in our local community and in the world.

Rotary is a wonderful organization with nearly 1.3 million members in more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Why wouldn’t someone want to join? Well, maybe they just haven’t been asked yet. I challenge you to find those new members and bring them in! More Rotarians mean more hands for service. More Rotarians mean more friends. More Rotarians mean that we can continue the good Rotary does. I look forward to sharing this year with you. Let’s make it the best we can – together!

Yours in Rotary,

Martin “Marty” Postic, Jr.
