ABOUT WINGS OF ROTARY
Wings of Rotary: A Short-Term Student Exchange Program of Rotary International District 5750
(From the RI web site, http://rotary.org ) Experience Wings of Rotary, an adventure you’ll never forget. During the past 25 years, high school students like yourself from Rotary International District 5750 in Oklahoma have enjoyed a unique, short-term exchange with students from Rotary District 2520 in Iwate, Japan. Hundreds of young people from both countries have crossed the Pacific to experience life in another country.
As a Wings student, you’ll take a two-week trip that will last a lifetime. You and other Oklahoma teens will fly to Tokyo and then travel to the beautiful Prefecture of Iwate in northern Japan. There, you and your Oklahoma Rotary sponsors will be graciously and generously hosted by Japanese Rotarian families. You’ll stay in their homes, taste their foods, experience their customs, view incredible sights, make lasting friendships, take a thousand photos, and even learn a few words of Japanese. It’s a life-changing experience.
The Japanese are fantastic hosts. You and your fellow teens from Oklahoma will spend one or two nights in several different communities. The Rotarians there will provide tours and sightseeing excursions, along with special events, parties, festivals, and banquets.
To qualify to participate, you should have completed at least your sophomore year of high school by the date of the exchange, although exceptions may be made in special circumstances. In addition, you must demonstrate the ability and desire to be a good ambassador of the United States and its culture.
